Parenthood

In an apparent subconscious attempt to survive a now nine hour day in a whirling abyss of humanity, I have all but quit blogging.

Toughened, hardened to the mass of daily lives encroaching mine. De-focusing along with them, anxiety replacing Seasonal bliss.

What "Thing" will make my child happy? Read: What thing will make my child OK? Flashbacks serve me well, as we unpacked Christmas last weekend.

Three years ago in the hood, Al's first Christmas back,  all he wanted was a plastic Nativity scene that played "We Three Kings" . I gave it to him on Christmas Eve, he fell asleep playing it over and over.

We were so poor, so rich.

I am guilty of teaching my child the wrong things, exhausting myself to make material dreams come true.

One year, maybe next, he'll know perhaps Santa has many helpers out here. This year, he still believes with the innocence I myself long to have.

This is what we do, this is the whole deal as parents...we do whatever it takes, to make their dreams come true.

If that means getting rejected twenty times a day while on your knees in the middle of a Mall...then by God you do it.

You do whatever it takes.

Well I still read (and love) your blog. Don't worry about not posting regularly - it means you'll have interesting stuff to shout about when you do post :)
